Allowing Urges

An urge is nothing more than an emotion. We know that emotions are created from thoughts about our circumstances. When it comes to weight loss or overcoming a poor relationship with food, we have to overcome those urges first by allowing them. We have to go through the process of allowing for negative emotions in order to loosen their power over us. When we are willing to just feel our feelings and not buffer or avoid or distract ourselves from them, that's where the magic happens. Do the exercise in the video on processing emotions and next time you have a strong emotion come up allow it to be there, don't push it away or hide from it. When you can get really good at this practice of allowing emotions, you will completely change your relationship with yourself and all of the people you come in contact with. You will become a compassionate observer rather than reactive or resistant.
